About Me

My photo
We love to travel and find new things to do together as a family. This blog shares our thoughts about the places we explore, mainly in the Metropolitan DC area (Maryland, DC, Northern Virginia, sometimes referenced at the DMV). And, occasionally we will write about places we visit on our vacations. Sometimes you just wish someone had told you "Don't waste your time or money" before you went somewhere, or sometimes you're going on vacation and want some insight on family-friendly things to do. We hope this blog will come in handy for you and your family. If you have suggestions for places to visit, please share them with us. Happy reading!

Six Flags America

Great bang for your buck...Two parks for the price of one! Located in Mitchellville, MD., in Prince George's County, Six Flags America amusement park and it's Hurricane Harbor water park is a great way to spend a day with the family.

Looney Tunes Movie Town is perfect for the little ones, with pint-sized rides and photo ops with the Looney Tunes characters. The park is full of rides that the whole family can ride together and then there are plenty of roller coasters for the thrill seekers. The Gotham City themed coasters like Batwing, Superman, and the Joker's Jinx are only 3 of the rides that make you scream your head off. There are a couple of wooden roller coasters that shake you up real good and then there's the Mind Eraser...which is aptly named. (Don't think I'll be going on that one again). All together there are 7 coasters, including the new one opened last summer called the Apocalypse. https://www.sixflags.com/america/rides/AllRides.aspx  I love all the rides and especially the roller-coasters but I find in my old age, my stomach is liking them less. Of course, I don't dare give my 10 year old the chance to call me "chicken" or "old" so I just suck it up and ride. :-) We usually ride the roller coasters in the early morning before it gets too crowded or in the evening when most of the families have left for the day - the lines are shorter then and we get to ride multiple times.

The summer days can get really hot at these parks and Six Flags offers a full water park to cool off in. Lazy river, wave pool, kiddie pools and tons of twisty-turny slides to keep the fun going without sweating to death. The good thing is that you can go back and forth between the two all day long.

Food at this park can be expensive depending where you eat but it's relative to the other theme parks.
Tickets for the park can be purchased online (cheaper if you buy them 3 days in advance), coupons can be picked up at local grocery stores, or sometimes local community centers have discounted tickets. Sometimes in mid to late summer, they will offer a pass for the rest of the season for the one day price. Check website before buying tickets. Parking is an additional expense at $20 ($50 All Season). https://www.sixflags.com/america/tickets/index.aspx

This park does get extremely crowded during the summer (even more so on weekends) and you will see people from ALL walks of life so prepare yourself for rudeness, pushiness, and adolescent madness mixed in with the families and out-of-towners trying to have a good time.
