We decided to take the scenic drive up MD28 instead of taking the I270 and it was a beautiful drive through the farmlands with the opportunity to stop and buy fresh produce along the way. Taking the turn onto Mt Ephraim Road, we went off onto a barely paved, narrow, winding road that made me sorry I didn't fill my gas tank up before heading in because if anything happened out there, it looked like no one would find us. After driving a couple miles in, we came to a fork in the road and as we were doing the "eenie meenie miney mo" to decide, a nice family parked on the side of the road called us over and told us which way to go. As we neared the base of the park, the surroundings were just so peaceful -- a crystal clear lake, open fields of bright green grass and flowers teeming with all sorts of butterflies getting their fill.

As we entered the park itself, a one way road took us on a winding journey as we slowly ascended the 1,200' elevation. Parking lots conveniently located along the way, with scenic overlooks.I must admit that the views were nice but not spectacular. That said, I can only imagine how beautiful it must be in the fall when all the trees are changing color! We will definitely make a trip back to see this as everyone raves about it.

There are portolets conveniently located by all parking areas and there are picnic tables scattered if you just want to sit and enjoy the scenery. Kids will enjoy climbing on rocky areas and exploring.
It was very hot, even with the shade and the bugs were out in full force. Trips in Spring and Fall are probably best but always bring your bug repellent!
Also on the park grounds is the Strong Mansion, which can be rented for special occasions. Other events and festivals are held in the park throughout the year and the SugarLoaf Winery is just at the base of the park, available for tours and tastings.
